Welcome to my very first blog post!
What makes us want (need) to create? I've gotten into all sorts of creative activities - knitting, music, embroidery, lyric writing, gardening, stained glass, jewellery design, photography.
[Leave a comment on what you feel makes us want/need to create things]
I tend to be obsessive at first - exploring all the elements that interest me. For activities like knitting the obsession didn't last long! I was pants at it. Embroidery I made a few things which were based on patterns or kits and I enjoyed doing the activity, but couldn't progress to making something original and so lost interest. Music - I did learn flute and tried sax but quite frankly I was always going to be the third flute in the orchestra. Lyric writing - how many of us haven't scribbled down lines full of teenage angst and self pity or rage? I have to say I literally burnt the 400 or so lyrics I wrote in my mid to late teens. I no longer recognised the girl who wrote them and they were truly awful bits of poetry.
Eventually most of my obsessions cool to appreciation, boredom and then disinterest. I joke that the only things I've stuck with is my fella and all associated with Hedgelands (which is the anchor of my own creative work).
Plants and gardening, Photographing same, Stained glass, and jewellery design however have been a part of my life for longer and I think my interest will certainly be with me for life. I'll try to share some of this passion with you over the coming months, years even.
Off for another cup of coffee - next time from Hedgelands 'How I approach picture taking'.
